Sherlock's version of: "that would be so cool if you weren't just here to babysit me because everyone thinks I'm a time bomb ready to explose. I still have the scars from the hits you gave me at the hospital and you haven't even thought about apologizing, but can we be friends again please?"

My first ever Sherlock & Co. Fic, it's ofc about Sherlock's DID. One of Sherlock's headmates fronts after being dormant for a number of years and meets John. Very fluffy, kind of angsty but more comfort less hurt. Mentions ofc of dormancy and allusions to past trauma, plus mentions of panic attacks.
I wrote this mostly inspired by some of my own dormant headmates coming out of dormancy, it's a weird and wonderful and relieving experience for us.
This fic is now on ao3 (link)
Fic under the cut (no editing, I wrote this in a flash, do not judge lol):
When he opened my eyes, he knew immediately some time has passed since the last time he did.
He looked around the room, trying to discern and deduce where he was- definitely an apartment, so not a dorm or his parents place, somewhere he resides, mainly. He stood on wobbly feet, noticing the tightness of his trousers on his waist- they've gained weight, how odd- and made his way outside the bedroom, finding the bathroom to be right next to his bedroom, seeing in the mirror his- no, Sherlock's- reflection.
He touches his cheek, sees new scars, and old, familiar ones faded. He runs his hands through his hair, clean and scented and soft. It's been a considerable amount of time.
“Sherlock? It's around that time, Mariana wanted to talk about some potential clients, remember?” He heard a voice, and he felt a small sort of panic rise in him.
“Er, j-just a minute!” He lets out, and wonders at how full his voice sounds.
“uh… alright, then… you alright, mate?” The voice just inside the doorframe now, the reflection of a man with shaggy blond hair and a scruffy beard leaning on the frame, his blue eyes piercing through him. The silence in his head, a void only a minute ago, helpfully supplies him with some help as he hears John play over.
“Yes, I'm fine, John.” He says, and the man's eyebrows shoot towards his hairline, his eyes wide.
“You called me John, and it wasn't even a tense emotionally charged moment of stress and trauma, now I definitely know somethings wrong. What is it, Sherlock?” He asked, and he damned his parts.
“I…” then, fear rises. He had no idea if this John person knew, knew of the secret that they had held since Trevor, new of the myriad of thoughts and voices this body shares.
John's eyes softened. “Hey, it's okay, whatever it is. You can trust me.”
He wishes desperately for someone, anyone to confirm or deny this, and he gets the overwhelming trust his host feels for this man.
“I… I'm Scotty.” He says. “I haven't… not since…”
Understanding blooms on John's face, and he smiles. “It's really nice to meet you, Scotty. I'm John Watson. Sherlock has told me about you.”
Scotty crossed his arms over his chest, looking down at John's shoes. “What has he told you?”
“He told me you left, a long time ago. Dormancy, he said?”
Scotty nodded. “It's been a very long time. I don't know what…” he intended to add time, year, anything, but it was a given. He didn't really know anything.
“The year's 2024, it's July. We're in London, 221b Baker Street. I'm your roommate, and Sherlock's best friend. We have Mariana, and Archie downstairs.” John explains softly. “D'you want something to eat?”
Scotty nods.
John smiles. “I've only just started getting Sherlock to eat, it's nice to have some cooperation, c'mon.”
John leads him out of the bathroom and to a small kitchen area, in complete disarray but generally nicer than most kitchens Scotty has seen. It looks like the people that use it care, not only for the stationary and cutlery but for their living space, their home. It makes something warm inside of Scotty bubble.
“This is… nice.” He says to John, and the man snorts.
“Glad you think so, I think I about given up on keeping it tidy, keeping track of Sherlock is a near impossible task.” John motions for the and, and Scotty sits, placing his hands on the surface. “How does, um… eggs? Eggs sound?” John asked as he rummaged through their fridge. Scotty smiled at John, tried not to laugh at the effort the man was putting into this.
“That sounds good, John.” he looked around more, peering into the living room a bit. It was also messy, papers and books and mugs and wires everywhere, hoodies and dog toys and dvd's as well, and Scotty furrowed his brow in fascination. “How long have we been living together, John?” He asked.
“Oh, uh,” he blew out some air as he thought, clicking his tongue. “Around, I want to say, nine months now? Moved in around the end of october, I think?”
“Wow…” He mutters. All the trinkets, all. The pieces, the papers, the studies Sherlock loves and cares for so much, integrated so deeply into John's own life. To be honest with himself, he wasn't sure where Sherlock's things started and John's ended. “You're… really important to us.”
He hears John sputter a little. “What? I mean, not that I didn't know, just- y'know. Odd to hear it.”
Scotty shook his head. “Even with Trevor, or all of Sherlock's other friends, things weren't like… this. We really care for you, and you care for us.”
John clears throat. “I'mean, 'course I do, Scotty. Your system has helped me in a lot of ways, ways I'm not sure even I understand.”
Scotty looked to John, fascinated. “You've met the others?”
“Fleetingly,” John clarified. “I believe his name was… Arthur? He helps Sherlock go to bed, sometimes, when he stays up for longer than four days. And Shelley, she's fronted a couple times to help with my panic attacks.”
Scotty's heart warms. To know that his parts were still around, doing good when he was away, it was reassuring to know.
“I'm glad, then.” Scotty says. “It's good to know we've met you, John Watson. Things weren't always… like this. This nice. Things were…” he closes his eyes as he tries to not think of that night, that man, once so high, now brought down by his own hubris, and the rushing torrent of your fault, your fault, your fault- he felt that night. “Hard. It's good.”
John comes to sit across from Scotty, smiling. “I know. It was the same for me. I'm glad I met you, Scotty.”
John makes the eggs, and Scotty eats about two before he's finished, and John goes downstairs to explain that Sherlock was having a bad day, and Scotty stayed upstairs, petting Archie, who slobbered all over his lap, though he found he couldn't mind.
We made it, he thought, over and over. We made it.
By the time John had come back upstairs, The body of Sherlock's system was curled up on the couch, nuzzling Archie to find comfort. “Scotty?” He asked, and got a negative hum in response.
“Sherlock?” He tried, and he got a nod. “Hey, how are you doing?”
Sherlock lifted his head, his face red and tear streaked. “I'm… I'm okay. I'm good. Thank you, John.”
John's heart melts, and he comes to sit next to Sherlock, rubbing a hand between his shoulder blades. “Of course, Sherlock, of course. It was really the least I could do.”
Sherlock sniffled. “Frédéric had said that there was a chance Scotty wasn't ever coming back. That he wouldn't until he felt complete and utter safety.”
Realization slowly crept onto John. “I… you feel safe. Here, with us?”
Sherlock nodded. “After what happened… I couldn't blame him. But I'm just-” he turned away from the dog and instead found comfort in John's embrace, and John immediately wrapped his arms around him. “Thank you.”
John squeezed, rubbing his back. “Of course, Sherlock, of course.”
Scotty popped up a couple times over the next few days, but his fronting activity dwindled. John had almost worried he had gone dormant again, but Sherlock seemed happy, whole, and good, and he found that wherever Scotty lay in that great big brain of theirs, he would do what it took to make him feel safe.

You know how I complain about the lack of emotional resolution in The Final Problem? It's not an issue exclusive to that episode.
In The Great Game, there is an explosion at 221B, when John enters the room expecting to see a hurt or injured Sherlock, but instead, we see Mycroft and Sherlock talk about a case.
Why is this interesting? We know Mycroft went straight there after he heard about the explosion, most likely for reasons other than the case like, idk, to check if his brother is still alive? We are not shown that. If Mycroft showed any concern towards him, it is entirely off screen.
We are shown Mycroft watch Sherlock get tortured and speak to him in bad Serbian (why was the Serbian so bad? Was it supposed to be bad?), mirror the actions of his torturers and refer to his torture as a "holiday."
What are we not shown? Mycroft helping him out of the chains. Arranging for him to get his wounds mended. Any possible show of concern. See a pattern?
The Great Game was mostly from John's pov, so it makes sense there. John wasn't there. Here you have no excuse, as season 3 is mostly Sherlock's pov.
So why did they not show us that? They were afraid of consequences. It's the same reason the Lazarus explanation felt like a retcon and a cop-out to people.
I saw a hypothesis that just as Option 1 was Anderson's fantasy and Option 2 was the fangirl fantasy, Lazarus is Sherlock's fantasy.
In this version, he had the events perfectly in control, Mycroft didn't cause him to get screwed over and it was all intentional and they worked together, John, Mrs H and Lestrade were not in any real danger, Sherlock didn't get as emotional on the roof and didn't cry etc. etc. etc.
You see if Mycroft was to blame for the fall, if he was what truly led to Sherlock's downfall and it wasn't all premeditated, you would have to address that.
Sherlock would be angry with him. He would resent him for something he actually did as opposed to a vague reason we were never given or explained.
You wanted to play with emotional stakes, but you didn't want any relationships to actually evolve.
That's why John's beating of Sherlock is not addressed in The Final Problem even when it would be relevant.
That's why Molly is shown back in 221B at the end when the last time we saw her, Eurus put her friendship with Sherlock in serious jeopardy if not outright kill it.
That's why they wrote Rosie into the show and then did next to nothing with her.
That's why 221B explodes and then is rebuilt in a quick montage at the end of the episode.
That's why Eurus is put back into the very same prison she had no issue mindfucking everyone in and escaping from.
That's why we don't see Sherlock reacting to Mycroft being freed or have them discuss events of Sherrinford.
Because they wanted to put these characters through hell, but not actually have anything change.

It’s a small moment but we don’t talk enough about the drug bust scene with John saying “This guy, a junkie?! Have you met him??” followed by “What? No. …you?!” Like he went from sort of defending him to judging the hell out of him in .3 seconds. And of course, Sherlock responds by getting defensive.
It stands out more in hindsight but all the way back then, he was already less than sympathetic & it clearly bothered Sherlock.

(BBC Sherlock post)
I wonder if, when Mary first looked at John, she knew that her love would ruin both of their lives. Maybe she did, but she loved him anyway because, as the poets say, it’s better to have loved and suffered than to have not loved at all.

I know that (BELIEVES, WANTS) (DOESN'T BELIEVE, WANTS) and (DOESN'T BELIEVE, DOESN'T WANT) all existed in the space of the whole Sherlock TJLC thing... but do you think they ever managed to convince someone who thought they worked better as friends and was like low key mad about it and dreadwatching until the last episode (if not later; I like to imagine this person fucking loved Apple Tree Yard)

I'm curious. What were your theories about John and Mary's child's fate before Series 4's release? Did you think the baby is fake? What was supposed to happen to her according to you?
I believe I sort of ignored the baby issue at the time, I wasn’t writing about it. My speculation however was pretty dark, namely that Mary would probably die while still pregnant or that Mary and the child would die a little later. In retrospect, I was naive to expect such a bold choice from Moftiss. But it didn’t dare cross my mind that a baby would get in the middle of the Sherlock & John adventures. I thought Moriarty would be responsible for the death of mom & child and that’s when shit would really hit the fan and lead to the final countdown (which would be John VS Moriarty for Sherlock’s sake, like in the waterfall in TAB). I didn’t think for a moment that the baby would be fake, that was stupid imo, John was a freaking doctor, wouldn’t he ever check the belly of his own wife??? I also didn’t think the baby would be someone other than John’s, because this would add unnecessary and out-of-place romantic drama to the plot.
But after the route Moftiss chose, I guess a fake baby or a baby of another father was as good a plot as any…

You couldn't kill your brother (shooting script for TFP)
Tumblr media
So, I looked into this script when someone posted links to previous versions of the s4 shooting scripts. As far as I know, this was an actual version of the script for The Final Problem. If anyone has any evidence that this might not be real or accurate, please do tell me so I can add that in.
So, onto sharing some of my thoughts.
One line was that always stuck out to me as odd was Mycroft saying he never bullied Sherlock. That was such a strange word choice for him of all people. Only it was not his wording. In an earlier draft, Sherlock says: "You turned my sister into a ghost story to bully me." In the aired version, they cut the bully part out, but left in Mycroft's response.
They also changed Sherlock's line to Mycroft from "do be quiet, dear" to "shut up, dear". Previously, it was actually John who says "Shut up, Mycroft" after he doesn't stay silent after Sherlock's line.
Now what I found strange was Ben C's delivery. Telling someone to shut up is usually done in a snappy way, but he says it rather calmly? And he still says "be quiet" later, which seems like a de-escalation? Like, he gets less mad that Mycroft won't listen?
Now in the new version, John says nothing and is completely silent. Why doesn't he say anything, wouldn't he also be interested in hearing the phone call?
There is also some new dialogue that was cut in the scene where Sherlock is forced to choose, such as Mycroft saying "for the greater good" and the line about flowers comes earlier, John saying to Mycroft he is the right soldier for the job and the smart one and Mycroft saying he is not and confessing to the Moriarty thing. Paraphrasing.
Also before giving the "how do you want me" line to Mycroft, Moriarty adds "fair enough."
My least favourite part was the narrative agreeing with Mummy Holmes about Sherlock being the grown up. At least in the aired version, I can headcanon we are not supposed to agree, but like this... ugh. Just ugh.
Now onto what I posted. If this is an actual scene, I have a thought to share.
Why on Earth would you cut this?
It adds so much. Sherlock trying to frame his reaction as an act of logic, before saying that, yes, he wasn't able to kill his brother. This being a revelation and a moment, implying Sherlock thought he was able to do it and being surprised he could not. He knew it was going to be hard, he says so, but he is surprised he wasn't able to go through with it.
Sherlock admitting he fears Eurus killed Mycroft, when in the aired version it was only implied and wasn't clear to everyone. Which makes me even more mad we never see the Holmes brothers talk about this! I will take a handshake at this point if they couldn't give us a hug. (with them as adults, I know we got one as children). And when I say that, I should clarify I want them both to be alive at that point and both to stay alive afterwards (sorry, my snarkiness is bleeding through. you know me ;)
Also just to end on a sad note I guess, and others noticed this before me, when Sherlock hugs and comforts Eurus, he at that point still fears she might have killed Mycroft (and is in middle of attempting to murder John). Yet she gets a hug...

I’ve reblogged this 9 or 12 times before, but this meta is so perfect.
But you know what- the morgue scene was fundamentally different for me. It definitely did cross a line.
That doesn’t mean it was ooc (it’s actually very in character for John to resort to unnecessary violence when Sherlock pushes his buttons), but the thing about all of the other instances of John’s violent outbursts before this is that it’s been on an equal playing field. Sherlock is no saint- in fact, he’s extremely manipulative of people’s emotions (John’s in particular), so they both have some abusive tendencies.
All of the other times John’s blown up, though, Sherlock has been perfectly capable of fighting back (physically and emotionally). In the morgue scene, Sherlock is literally incapacitated- he’s so high that he ends up in the hospital later, he’s having hallucinations and severely altered thought patterns, he’s barely even able to walk straight much less hold his own in a fight. Not to mention he’s in such a terrible place emotionally (I would argue passively suicidal) due to his own grief (because John’s not the only one grieving- he’s just the only one that beats the shit out of his friend because of it) that he doesn’t even try to defend himself.
So yes, shoving Sherlock against the wall was perfectly valid. Even the first punch might be understandable (because yea he’s threatening a guy with a scalpel), but beating him until he falls to the ground and then continuing to kick him as he lays there and takes it until someone has to physically pull you off of him…. Yeah no.
And I think my problem with this might be wrapped up in my bigger problem of how Sherlock’s friends (especially John) treat his addiction, especially in this episode.
Most of them (aside from maybe Molly) seem to either not really care at all and are just content to leave him to stew in his own drug den, only care about it when it affects them personally, or outright get mad at Sherlock and act as if his relapse is a moral wrongdoing that he’s consciously choosing to perpetrate instead of what it really is: a disease that he can’t control that he’s been fighting with for years and he’s now having a very difficult time with that fight because his grief has mentally and emotionally weakened him.
And it’s not just about Mary’s death, because John’s always treated Sherlock’s addiction with annoyance and contempt more than anything else. Like he’s a doctor- he should know that this isn’t just something Sherlock’s choosing to do for fun. But because he lets his hero worship of Sherlock blind him, he thoroughly buys the lie that Sherlock tries to sell that he’s not an addict, he just uses when he’s bored- and that mistake in judgment hurts Sherlock more than anyone.

BBC SHERLOCK REWATCH - A STUDY IN PINK (REAL TIME NOTES)
From the perspective of someone who watched this show when they were thirteen, made it their whole personality and then stopped being a massive prat.
I thought about organizing this into a cohesive review, and maybe as I go on I'll delve deeper into some of my observations but for now I thought it would be funny to present my findings in raw, mostly unaltered form:
- loud ass opening, my god
- only bit of acting Martin freeman ever does lmao
- dances along to theme against my will
- god the effects and transitions are so shit
- all the shots of the pills are so ugly
- oh yay molly - whoo - yayyy
- the potential withe these two goddamn
- also this sherlock does not drink his respect women juice by god
- fucksake the deduction about john's sister- not only is it translated awfully into this modern setting, it's explicitly a deduction Sherlock is supposed to make once they know eachother a bit better
- THE POTENTIAL
- also sherlock displaying one insecurity when john accidentally insults his stuff- well done moftiss, characterization
- How far away is the crime scene, why it dark
- pls the transitions
- PIPE BOMB, WHOO Phone deductionnnn
- oh my god it's so shit
- uuuuuuuugggghhhh the potential I hate this shooooow
- fuckin deduction as a way for witty one liners and sexism, i hate this place
- 'you were thinking it's annoying' i'm going to send myself off a cliff, CRINGE
- RACHE- moffat, come here a sec- literally putting ACD on par with the police, who are always wrong the sheer audacity- also just a bad change
- these lens flare white lights are so goofy please, you will never be a whole scene of silence with jeremy brett
- benedict cumberbatch is very pretty i will grant
- terrorized by the fact i used to quote this show unironically
- from a writing point of view I understand that John gushing over Sherlock is to show off and emphasize their specialest boy- but, some sincerity is infused into it from an acting standpoint
- 30:02 GIRLIE WHAT IS THAT SOUND EFFECT
- OOH YAY THE PSYCHOPATH/SOCIOPATH STUFF WHOO YEAAAAH
- All the phones calling as john walks past is kinda cool but mostly stupid
- oh anthea, what a rich character lmao
- how long was mycroft posed like that
- First johnlock queerbait whooo
- Where does he fuck off to???
- he just vanishes lmaoooo
- Three patch problem. Bruh.
- I am bored as shit, help
- This music- girl
- Bloated is a very good word to describe some of these scenes
- HERE SHE IS- THE BIG DADDY OF QUEERBAITING
- this scene is insane fucKING INSANE I HATE THIS SHOW
- god how much episode is left fucksake
- the stop/go signs- pick a tone girl
- this episode is so almost good and it's anytime Sherlock makes a mistake lmao
- not the drugs bust :/
- ooh sociopath line- whoo
- "I don't have to [imagine]." OOOH OKAY, WELL, YOU GUYS GET *ONE* POINT FOR THAT SHEESH
- this is so ridiculous- COME WITH ME- girl shut up
- I wanna be done I wanna be doooone.
- lamenting the confrontation we had in the unaired pilot
- The 'Frwhoomp' noise as the light goes out, girl
- 20 Minutes left my christ
- BRO- I forgot that bit of ADR wooooof
- and thus begins the scree of Moriarty
- five years, why is Scotland Yard still doubtful of Sherlock's skills? I know he might have been deep in his addiction during some of that, but they evidently kept him around for crime solving.
- Great man/good man quote has me fumin babes, my god, what a fundamental misunderstanding of Sherlock Holmes
- boring ass back and forth
- this piano is giving me war flashbacks
- is it a five orange pips reference?
- also the pills look like that speckled gum that burns your throat
- when is it oveeer
- falling asleep
- bomb under the table but the table is made of glass and hates gay people
- she tooks the kidssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
- 13 min
- love, or rage, dude, come on Sherlock
- i hate this 'enjoying crime too much' theme they've written
- like watching a stupid play
- once more, the potential
- moriarty he said calmly
- also, so out of character for Sherlock do I even need to say
- peaks of what could have been- FUCK
- this mycroft fake out- lord
- also, mummy, fucksake
- cheesy ending BUT IT'S OVER
